garbage picking
So, I like garbage picking as much as the next guy.
In fact, our first two apartments were almost completely furnished by big garbage pick up days in Oakville (people throw away good shit in Oakville!).
But since the liquor store instituted 'bag it back' for the deposit on, and subsequent return of, booze bottles, garbage nights (Thursday nights around this 'hood) because a bit of a rattle-filled affair.
People wander the streets digging through blue boxes and garbages to pull out wine and liquor bottles to return to the beer store for the 15 cent refund or whatever it is.
This is actually a really great thing for two reasons. The first is that it's the second tennet of the 'reduce, reuse, recycle' mantra, so, you know, chalk one up for the environment. And the second is that if someone collects enough bottles they can probably afford a meal (because, lets be honest here, the people digging through our trash for spare bottles, they're the people who can't afford a meal).
So, win win, right?
Except that in the summer, when the window is open, the window that is all of a foot and a half from the sidewalk, it's actually pretty disconcerting to have someone hanging right outside for an extended period of time.
Uh. Yeah. That's it. Not really anything interesting, just sitting here feeling kind of disconcerted and feeling it's funny considering my support for the activity, and I thought, hey! I could blog about that!
ta da!
